5 days at Cheltenham looks nailed on

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

5 days at Jumps HQ looks certain to come into force in the next few years.

As the news broke on Monday morning, it looks certain that Cheltenham Festival will be expanded to 5 days in the next couple of years. With Royal Ascot expanding to 35 races, it is being suggested by the Jockey Club that Cheltenham will follow suit and add extra races. Just 2 more will be added to ensure Cheltenham can provide a 6 race card on each day.

With National Hunt racing in a pickle currently in the UK, you have to question why they are focusing on expanding the Festival currently. Instead they should be looking at fixing small field graded races and ensuring it's quality over quantity in a season.

In no uncertain terms should Cheltenham be diluted and we beg the BHA to review the National Hunt season before looking at expanding the best 4 days on earth.
